Copywriting Skills

Welcome to my articles & posts page.

With over 2 decades of experience as a 360° marketing professional, I’ve written just about everything from web pages, ad campaigns, service brochures, product reviews, to more complex requirments, such as video scripts, and SEO content for both digital and traditional media. I blend creativity with commercial strategy to deliver content that doesn’t just sound good - it performs.

This section highlights a few samples from my content archive. While some articles are technical, others are designed to entertain or inform, depending on the audience and channel. From decommissioning data centres to raising funds for military charities, and even writing about computer recycling, I aim to engage, convert and elevate every brand I work with. Some posts are for SEO, others for social, but all are crafted with purpose, oh and the occasional grin.

Article About Artificial Intelligence
In his capacity as a highly experienced digital marketing director, Chris Keenan talks about how to write an article using AI as a case study.

In "Will AI Free You or Make You into a Phone Zombie?", I explore the dual nature of artificial intelligence as both a tool for liberation and a potential catalyst for deeper digital dependency. While AI promises enhanced productivity and convenience, it also poses significant environmental concerns due to the substantial energy consumption of data centers powering these technologies. Moreover, the integration of AI into various industries threatens to displace human roles, raising questions about the future of employment and the societal value of work.

The article delves into the psychological and social implications of a world increasingly dominated by AI. I question whether the automation of tasks will truly free individuals to pursue meaningful activities or simply lead to increased screen time and passive consumption. The concern is that, without the structure and purpose provided by traditional work, people might succumb to the allure of endless digital distractions, becoming "phone zombies" in the process.

The impetus for this article is to foster a dialogue about how we can harness AI's potential without it diminishing human well-being.

The motivation behind writing this article stems from the need to inform IT professionals and business decision-makers about reliable and scalable storage solutions.

Server Rack Installation Guide
As a marketing director, Chris Keenan demonstrates his ability to communicate complex IT infrastructure solutions, focusing on server rack and network installations.

While this article serves to inform potential clients about BIAS IT's services, writing it also allowed me to engage in a creative exercise. Crafting clear and compelling content about technical services challenges me to distill complex information into accessible narratives, keeping my writing skills sharp and adaptable. This process underscores the importance of continuous learning and creativity in the ever-evolving tech industry.

The Server Rack and Network Installation Service article - written for BIAS IT - outlines their comprehensive offerings for businesses seeking robust IT infrastructure solutions.

A standout feature of BIAS IT's approach is their commitment to customer support. They offer flexible IT support memberships, including a set number of free engineer callouts per month, ensuring businesses receive timely assistance when needed. This proactive support model aims to minimize downtime and maintain the efficiency of IT operations. It was my intention to capture this level of service in this short article about their services.

Helping 200 Startups Thrive
As a marketing director, Chris Keenan shares insights from helping over 200 start-ups grow through sharp, strategic messaging and brand positioning.

Although this article isn’t tied to any specific client or project, writing it is far from idle. It’s how I stretch my mind and keep my creative energy sharp. Whether it’s a product review or a personal reflection, writing demands discipline, clarity, and craft, and like any skill, it needs constant use to stay strong.

In "30 Years. 200 Start-Ups. One Tiger.", I reflect on a career that’s spanned three decades, from cold-calling startups in the '90s to helping build over 200 businesses. The story charts a path of persistence, creativity, and learning-by-doing - the real tools of the trade in marketing and entrepreneurship.

A standout moment came through my involvement in publishing Go! Go! Go!, the definitive SAS account of the Iranian Embassy siege, a project that taught me the power of timing, teamwork, and telling stories that matter. These experiences shaped my shift from design to full-scale marketing strategy.

Hipster Hippies of the 90’s
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Electric Cars

Did The Hipster Hippies of the 90’s Give Us Electric Cars?

In the early to mid-1990’s there was a big hippy resurgence. Flared jeans, tie-dye dresses, long hair and friendship bracelets were all the scene. I’m not sure, but I think it was caused by “us young’uns” discovering our parents record collections and rocking out to the likes of Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin & all the LSD inspired music of yesteryear.

Actually, back then I was in a rock band and identified mainly as a ‘Druidic Master Blaster Fretboard Shredding Celt’, but that was just a label, so after much deep and reflective contemplation I bleached my hair down the middle and made everyone call me the Skunk! Who would have thought that I would have ended up becoming an International Marketing Guru – who now has NO HAIR WHAT SO EVER!

Hope you enjoy this light look at the values that I think led to the EV revolution.

Review: Synology HD6500 NAS
Digital marketing director Chris Keenan uses product reviews to boost visibility and trust.

When approaching a product review, I begin by immersing myself in comprehensive research—understanding the product's specifications, capabilities, and intended use cases. I then analyze competing solutions to identify differentiators and pinpoint the unique selling points (USPs) that set the product apart. This method ensures that the content is not only informative but also strategically positioned to resonate with the target audience.

In my review of the Synology HD6500 Storage Server, I delve into its high-density design and I highlight its robust performance to the target market.

This article exemplifies my ability to distill complex technical information into accessible content for specialized audiences. By conducting thorough research and presenting detailed analyses, I craft reviews that inform and engage, demonstrating my proficiency in creating high-quality content tailored to the needs of businesses and IT professionals.

Recycling Data Center IT
A Christopher Keenan News Article

I wrote this article to encourage data center recycling.

Data centers are the hidden data storage and delivery systems that power the Internet of things. Our phones, pads, laptops, computers and TV sets all depend on data centers. As a result, data center facilities are growing in numbers at an exponential rate. Data centers use a colossal amount of the world’s electricity to power and cool millions of servers and networking equipment.

Whilst most people focus on the environmental impact data centers have in terms of energy usage, they often overlook the unprecedented damage caused by the manufacturing and disposal of servers and networking hardware. In fact, it is vital we recycle data center equipment when the time comes to dispose of it.

Recycling data center IT hardware is important for several reasons. Firstly, it prevents hazardous waste, including heavy metals and carcinogens, from entering the atmosphere, landfill or waterways. Secondly, valuable mineral resources are reclaimed when electronics are recycled and these can be reused, thusly making data centers more sustainable.

Death By Smartphone
A Christopher Keenan News Article

The article is about the possible health risks of using smartphones, tablets and WIFI. It cites some studies and reports that suggest that these devices emit electromagnetic fields (EMF) that may cause cancer, infertility, brain damage and other problems. The article also gives some tips on how to reduce exposure to EMF, such as using speakerphone or headphones, turning off WIFI at night, and keeping devices away from the body.

Whether the article is good to read or not depends on your interest and perspective. Some people may find it informative and alarming, while others may find it biased and sensational. When writing it I chose not to provide any sources or references for the claims, though in truth the information came from a research article from the WHO and a study commissioned by the 44th US President, Barack Obama.

To be fair, Dr Devra Davis had headed the research requested by President Obama and her study clearly concluded with smartphones posing a real threat to life. This is one of the scariest articles I’ve written.

The China Crisis Could Be A Blessing
A Christopher Keenan News Article

I wrote this short article about the impact of China’s decision to ban the import of foreign recyclable waste, especially electronic waste (e-waste). It argues that this decision could be a blessing in disguise for the US and other countries, as it could force them to develop more sustainable and circular ways of managing their own waste. The article also compares the US and Swedish models of waste management, and suggests that the US could learn from Sweden’s success in reducing landfill and increasing recycling.

What makes the article interesting is that it offers a different perspective on a global environmental issue, and challenges the readers to rethink their assumptions and habits. The article also provides some facts and figures about e-waste and recycling, such as the amount of e-waste generated per year, the percentage of e-waste that is recycled, and the environmental and social benefits of recycling. The article may appeal to those who are concerned about the environmental crisis and want to learn more about possible solutions.

Looking for a solution made this article fascinating to research.

What’s Virtualisation?
A Christopher Keenan News Article

The approach of combining an article with a supporting movie is a great strategy for social media platforms like LinkedIn and Google Business Profiles. By leveraging both written and visual content, you can engage a wider audience.

This article on computer system virtualization tackles a complex subject, I've not only explained its benefits but also presented it in a way that persuades the audience to buy it.

Virtualization can be challenging to understand, but breaking it down through storytelling can make it more accessible and compelling.

Improve Your IT Skills
A Christopher Keenan News Article

I wrote this story to find out if there was a drug that could help improve your IT skills? The article is published on LinkedIn, as part of an ITAD marketing campaign designed to engage connections on a personal level. It caused some controversy in the office but in the LinkedIn community it was incredibly popular.

What makes the article interesting is that it uses humour and irony to make a point about the importance of learning and developing IT skills, rather than relying on shortcuts or quick fixes. The article also challenges some of the stereotypes and myths about IT professionals, such as being nerdy, antisocial or drug users.

The article appeals to those who are interested in IT management, career development and personal growth. The story led to a massive boost in new connections and also personal engagements through LinkedIn. I received so many one-to-one messages about the article, all of which were positive. These new interactions gave me a fantastic opportunity to introduce my employers’ services.

Data Security Article
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Data Security

This article touches upon the subject of new hi-speed methods for permanently wiping storage array hard drives. Or put more simply into English, this article is about modern ways to remove your data, files, folders, photos, etc. from a computer hard drive.

It’s important to destroy hard drives before disposing of them because it helps prevent unauthorized access to your data, prevent identity theft, and safeguard data privacy. Additionally, by doing so you can avoid the risks of hefty fines and loss of reputation.

This article is also supported with a short movie about the history of hard drives and the many laws around data protection, especially those regarding data destruction. I designed the article webpage to include an audio and PDF version along with schema.org article mark-up code to help Google to index it correctly.

Data security is always a popular subject within the world of IT executives. I wrote this particular article for the company’s website, social media channels and Google Business Profile.

Recycling Batteries
A Christopher Keenan News Article

This article is about the future of battery recycling. It discusses how it is possible to recycle everything in a battery, but it costs more money than can be recovered from reclaimed materials. Plus, there’s only a scattering of companies that are capable of recycling 100% of the battery. The article also mentions that nearly all batteries end up being thrown away, which amounts to about 180,000 tons of batteries each year.

However, I’ve written the story to end on a positive note. I mention the future of batteries, one of the most promising technologies being 3D-printed Graphene Supercapacitor Electrodes. Graphene batteries charge five times faster, plus they can hold a spectacular amount of electricity. Perhaps more importantly they last longer and can be easily recycled.

I chose this particular subject to attract IT executives to our site through our newsletter. It’s been my experience that CIO’s and many IT directors are quite forward thinking, and take an interest in a broad range of emerging technologies, including EV’s and their batteries.

Charity Hosts General Petraeus
A Christopher Keenan News Article About General Petraeus

This short report is about the oldest serving US veteran, Lt Col James Megellas. The article describes how YBC, a company that provides ITAD services, sponsored a benefit event in Dallas, TX, to honor the legacy of Megellas, who was the most heavily decorated 82nd Airborne Officer and a patriot who served in World War II, Vietnam and Yemen.

The article also mentions that the event was hosted by General David Petraeus (ex-Director of the CIA) and that it supported the Semper Fi & America’s Fund, a non-profit organization that helps wounded veterans and their families.

The article may be interesting for people who want to learn more about the history and achievements of Megellas, who passed away in April 2020 at the age of 103. It may also be interesting for people who want to support the cause of helping veterans and their families. My report provides some information about YBC (my employer) and some information about Semper Fi & America’s Fund, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to wounded veterans and their families.

Selling Used IT Assets
A Christopher Keenan News Article

This article was written to help IT executives who are in the process of considering selling their used IT Assets. In essence, selling used IT assets can help recover some of the initial investment a company makes into their IT infrastructure. It can also provide a zero-cost method of IT disposal. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, selling used IT assets can help you reduce your carbon footprint via prolonging the life of the asset.

This particular article webpage uses a movie to support the message, as well as a PDF and an audio version of the article. I have included a mark-up text within the HTML to help Google index the story for display in a Google carousel or knowledge panel. I’m sure you know but a Google carousel is a row of rich (i.e., visual) results that searchers can interact with. They're common on mobile devices, but you can see certain types on desktops as well.

The article was mainly written to drive the website up in the Google ranking for keyword searches involving the reselling of used IT assets.

eWaste Gold
A Christopher Keenan News Article About eWaste Olympic Gold

I wrote this article about the plan to make the new Olympic medals from recycled electronic waste (e-waste), such as old, junk mobile phones, laptops and cameras. It explains how this initiative aims to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact, as well as to raise awareness and encourage participation from the public. The article also reveals how much actual gold, silver and bronze are in each medal, and how much they are worth in terms of market value.

What makes the article interesting is that it shows how e-waste can be transformed into something valuable and meaningful, such as Olympic medals that represent excellence and achievement. The article also provides some facts and figures about e-waste and recycling, such as the amount of e-waste collected for the medals, the percentage of recycled materials in each medal, and the environmental and social benefits of recycling.

I came up with the idea to write this news story to appeal to those who are interested in sports, technology and environmental issues. My plan being, to attract them to my employers website and thusly introduce our services.

Decommissioning Data Centers
A Christopher Keenan News Article

I was invited to write this article with a view to helping data center administrators and CIOs with the process of decommissioning data center server & storage clusters.

The process of decommissioning data center server & storage clusters involves several steps such as identifying the project scope, creating a detailed data center checklist, beginning the planning phase, identifying and acquiring necessary tools, removing or relocating equipment, wiping & sanitizing data, post-decommissioning clean-up and admin.

Decommissioning a data center is more complicated than just shutting down servers and switches. One imperative element is to maintain data security. Many IT assets in the decommissioning process will inevitably bear sensitive data, which could be breached if care is not taken to sanitize each asset before disposal, resell or recycling.

I’ve started the article with a short corporate video that advertises our business as an ITAD provider.

Selling Decommissioned Data Center Equipment
A Christopher Keenan News Article

When I first considered writing this article, it was purely as part of a campaign for buying retired data center servers and network switches. Buying, refurbishing and reselling used IT hardware is an excellent means of reducing pollution.

Reselling a previously used IT asset can have a tremendously positive effect on our environment. By reconditioning and selling used computers you reduce the need for mining, refining and manufacturing. This in turn reduces environmental damage, pollution and your carbon footprint.

To support this campaign and article I created a short video and placed it above the main copy. The article was also posted on LinkedIn and Facebook. I also published the post on our Google Business Profiles. The content helped our websites SERP massively but imagine my surprise when I learnt the article was being referenced by the GPT artificial-intelligence to cover the subject. It is fair to say, I feel a little flattered and a little concerned at the same time.

Creative Content
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Creative Content

I wrote this article about how to use creative content to generate business leads and increase sales. The article is published on LinkedIn.

I think what makes the article interesting is that it provides practical and actionable advice on how to create and distribute content that engages and influences potential buyers. It also explains how to use empathy, storytelling, humour and data to connect with your audience and persuade them to take action.

The article may appeal to those who are interested in digital marketing, content creation and lead generation.

I didn’t write this for an employer, but I’ve included it because I think it illustrates some of my experiences, my thought process and of course my level of commitment to this industry.

Reselling Used Business Computers
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Reselling Used Business Computers

I wanted to write a short article that wasn’t just about data centers selling their used IT but also included office IT assets too. Afterall, when you stop to think about it there are millions upon millions of office computers being decommissioned and disposed of every year.

According to a report by the US Census Bureau, there are more than 32.5 million businesses in the United States. Can you imagine how many computers they must use? Businesses like call centers, and large administrational centers tend to replace their aging IT hardware every 3 to 5 years. That means there are massive volumes of old business computers being thrown out every single day.

Refurbishing and reselling these old computers is one way to prevent them from being dumped in landfill sites around the world. However, most old computers have no real resell value and just need to be recycled. This is where we start to run into problems.

This article includes a short movie, an audio and PDF version of the story.

Disposing of Laboratory Equipment Safely
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Disposing of Laboratory Equipment Safely

I created this article to talk about the challenges and solutions for disposing of laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, centrifuges, spectrometers and the incubators used in scientific research and testing. I have aimed to explain why laboratory equipment needs to be disposed of properly to avoid environmental and health risks, and how Newtech Recycling, a company that provides ITAD services, can help laboratories with the removal, disposal, recycling and reselling of their decommissioned laboratory equipment. I’ve also included a few tips and best practices for laboratory equipment disposal, such as inventorying, data wiping, packaging and labelling.

This post may be interesting for people who work in laboratories and want to know how to safely and responsibly get rid of their old or unwanted laboratory equipment.

I’ve aimed to promote Newtech in this piece as a company that offers ITAD services, such as removal, disposal, recycling and reselling of business computers and IT hardware.

Privacy And Online Security
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Privacy And Online Security

I wrote this fun feature about the importance of clearing your browser history regularly to protect your privacy and security online. The article explains what browser history is, how it can be used by hackers, advertisers, and other third parties to track your online activities, and how to clear it in different browsers, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge. The feature also provides some humour and anecdotes to make the topic more engaging and entertaining to read.

This short piece is really for people who want to learn more about how browser history works and why it should be empty. It may also be interesting and fun to read for people who enjoy reading humorous stories and examples related to browser history. The article provides some information about Newtech Recycling, a company that offers IT asset disposition (ITAD) services, such as removal, disposal, recycling and reselling of business computers and IT hardware.

I originally wrote this post for marketing Newtech through LinkedIn, hope you like it?

Drive Data Destruction
A Christopher Keenan News Article

My intention behind writing this article was to take a quick look at the different methods of ensuring permanent hard drive data erasure. I started with a super quick history lesson to explain one of the many different reasons why hard drives are so difficult to destroy. For example, early computers like the IBM701, were built for defence, and mainly used to help detect the threat of Soviet bomber attacks. In fact, the Cold War with Russia (then head of the Soviet Union) was such a big deal that both sides developed weapons just to take out each other’s computers!

This article was extremely interesting to research and resulted in me also making a short documentary about the subject.

I’ve written so many articles about digital data destruction, however this approach to the subject matter was refreshingly different. I should mention that any company selling ITAD services must include data destruction within its abilities. Although data destruction is covered in the services descriptions of the website this article helps to promote the service further.

Future Computer Monitors
A Christopher Keenan News Article

In this article I write about the future of monitor recycling. I’ve chosen this subject because my employer had invested into a CRT recycling machine and I wanted to start drumming up more business for the new hardware.

Fortunately, I had been invited to consult for a fantastic company based in Cambridge (UK). As you probably know, Cambridge is famous for some extraordinary scientists, such as Isaac Newton and the late Stephen Hawking. The company was no exception to the fantastic scientific achievements that had gone before it. They had invented a ‘light emitting polymer’ that could make a computer monitor as thin as paper. It can even make wallpaper into a TV set. That’s not all, the invention doesn’t just make excellent monitors, it also makes excellent computers. In essence it means your computer and monitor can become the same thing (a bit like an iPad or computer tablet only paper thin).

I used this innovation to produce an article that pulled in thousands of readers and in the process made them all aware that we also recycle monitors.

Recycling Company Laptops
A Christopher Keenan News Article About The Best Way to Recycle Old Business Laptops

A laptop has a great second hand resell value. That said, you still have to destroy the laptops old hard drive, install a new OS and of course, refurbish it before it can be sold. In fact, if a laptop is badly damaged the refurbishment process can soon start eating into profits.

With all that said, if a company is recycling two or three hundred laptops a computer refurbishment business can turn a tidy profit. With profit in mind, I wrote this short article to help boost our SEO ranking in Google for the keywords “laptop disposal” and “laptop recycling”.

The problem we encountered was somewhat obvious but totally unexpected. As our website started to rise up the ranks to a first page search result, we were flooded with residential customers wanting to recycle their old laptops with us. I know it sounds like a good problem to have but the truth is recycling business laptops in bulk is a lot easier to manage than thousands of privately owned laptops.

Old Cloud Servers
A Christopher Keenan News Article

This article is focused towards recycling decommissioned data center infrastructure. I start the story with a few “stats and facts” to generate interest. It’s been my experience that most readers with technical backgrounds enjoy the details which validate or support “bigger picture” thinking. In this following example I’ve used population and Internet usage stats to provide the details required to perceive the scaling up of the hardware needed to support big data:

“There are currently over 7 billion people on the planet. At the turn of the new millennium (2000 AD) only 300 million people were connected to the Internet. Today the global digital online population has reached a staggering 4.2 billion.”

Obviously, this article was written some time ago, so those numbers have changed but you can see how the article hook works. The article has been written to lead the reader to a “call for action”. I contemplated the idea of asking them to subscribe to our newsletter but instead elected to invite them to contact us or use our online order form.

IT Disposal Law
A Christopher Keenan News Article About XXXXX

I based this article on two different IT managers. One IT manager was responsible for the disposal of IT assets from the medical insurance company: Affinity Health Plan. The other IT manager was responsible for the disposal of IT assets used by the Police Sex Crimes Division in Buffalo, N.Y. Both IT managers had failed to destroy sensitive data correctly before disposing of old hard drives.

At this point in US history, the legal system (with regards to failing to wipe sensitive data) had started fining companies and prosecuting their IT managers. This meant that on top of fines an IT executive could also be imprisoned. As you can imagine, potential incarceration played a motivating factor in IT managers using State approved and fully certified computer disposal solution providers (such as my employer).

Using the fear of imprisonment to entice readers might be considered easy click bait. However, at the time of writing this article, very few IT professionals knew the potential sentences they might have to endure. Therein, this article was more news than titillation.

How To Kill A Hard Drive!
A Christopher Keenan News Article

I wrote this article to present the best way to permanently remove information from a hard drive. It describes the process of data destruction that a company called Newtech offers to its clients, which involves four stages: data wipe, EMP blast, shredding and melting. The article also answers some common questions about hard drive disposal, such as how to delete files before recycling, how many drives can be destroyed per hour, and whether Newtech accesses any data on the drives. The article is part of a series of IT asset disposition and disposal news reports that have been published by ICT-ITAD.com, a website that provides IT recycling services.

Writing articles like this requires a basic technical understanding of how both SSD and HDD store and remove digital information. Whilst researching the subject I was surprised to learn that data isn’t removed from a hard drive after being deleted or being emptied from the recycling bin.

This article was published in the NewTech newsletter and is still displayed on the Newtech and ICT ITAD websites today.

Trump's Recycling Initiative
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Trump's Recycling Initiative

I had this article published in the Newtech newsletter and it is still available on the ICT ITAD news site today. This news story covers President Trump issuing an executive order to mandate recycling all electronic waste (e-waste) in the US. It claims that this order would have huge benefits for the environment, the economy and national security. The article also compares the US and China’s approaches to e-waste management, and argues that the US could gain a competitive edge by recycling its own e-waste instead of exporting it to China.

What makes the article interesting is that it presents a plausible situation that could have a significant impact on the world.

The article also uses humour and sarcasm to mock President Trump’s personality and policies, such as his obsession with walls, his denial of climate change, and his trade war with China. The article may appeal to those who enjoy satire and political commentary, as well as those who are curious about e-waste and recycling issues.

There’s No Second Place
A Christopher Keenan News Article About ITAD

In writing this story I am publicising my employers’ services whilst also explaining the benefits of recycling IT assets, such as computers, servers, printers and photocopiers. It explains how recycling IT assets can help businesses save money, protect data, reduce environmental impact and comply with legal regulations. The article also describes the services that ICT-ITAD.com offers to help businesses recycle their IT assets legally and safely, such as hard drive shredding, data destruction certificates, e-waste accreditation and remarketing options. The article is part of a series of IT asset disposition and disposal news (ITAD News) published by ICT-ITAD.com, a website that provides IT hardware recycling services.

What makes the article interesting is that it provides useful information and advice for businesses that want to dispose of their old or unwanted IT assets in a responsible way. The article also highlights the advantages of recycling IT assets over throwing them away or storing them indefinitely, such as saving space, energy and resources. This story is written to appeal to those who are interested in IT asset management, data security and environmental sustainability.

ITAD & Computer Recycling
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Computer Recycling

I've written this article to talk about how to find a reliable and certified computer recycling company. It is written for an enterprise called YBC, a business based in NJ that provides IT asset disposition (ITAD) and e-waste recycling services across the USA. A Christopher Keenan News Article About Computer Disposal Laws

I have aimed to explain why these devices are classified as toxic waste and why they need to be recycled by a certified e-waste recycler. It also explains why the data on these devices needs to be wiped or shredded before disposal to protect privacy and security. It warns that some businesses are more vulnerable to prosecution if they fail to comply with these laws.

The article may be interesting for people who are responsible for managing the IT assets of their businesses and want to avoid legal troubles or fines. It may also be interesting for people who are concerned about the environmental and social impact of e-waste and want to learn more about how to dispose of IT hardware properly.

Sell Or Recycle Old Data Center IT?
A Christopher Keenan News Article About Data Centers

I wrote this piece to address the question of whether to sell or recycle data center IT hardware, such as servers, storage systems and network equipment, when they are decommissioned. I’ve aimed to explain the environmental impact of manufacturing and running data center IT hardware, and how using renewable energy can reduce the carbon footprint of data centers. It also explains how IT asset disposition (ITAD) can help data centers to properly recycle or resell their old IT hardware, and how YBC, a company that provides ITAD services, can buy used data center hardware that still has a good resell price.

Reuse or Recycle?
A Christopher Keenan News Article

I wrote this article in an FAQ style. It covers the subjects around the issue of IT hardware disposal. For example, is it better to recycle or sell decommissioned servers & other such IT equipment? Recycling decommissioned servers generally involves taking out the hardware components. This is extremely time intensive and therefore costly. Whilst on the other hand reselling decommissioned equipment for reuse is less time intensive but there’s no way of ensuring it is eventually recycled correctly.

The article wasn’t written just to be a guide, it was in fact created for use in the website, social media feeds and Google Business Profiles for the singular purpose of SEM. As you will note the style of writing is extremely detailed and somewhat repetitive. The main reason for this style of writing is to amplify the value of keywords and search phrases.

Obviously, we want people to find the article helpful but, in this case, we are more interested in educating Google. Without a strong Google presence, we would not be able to help.

6 Handy ITAD Tips
A Christopher Keenan News Article

I wrote this article for Newtech Recycling, it presents 6 handy tips for successful IT asset disposal and remarketing. In essence the article was written to help CIOs, IT directors, or just someone put in charge of managing the disposal of a business’s old IT hardware. I’ve focused the reader on several key factors, including legal aspects, data destruction and service costs.

Newtech Recycling Inc is a company that specializes in electronic waste recycling. They recycle most types of electronic equipment and ensure all information is properly deleted or destroyed from the products they recycle. They have been in business for over 25 years and are committed to providing convenient, accessible, and affordable disposal for electronic waste (also known as e-waste).

At the time of writing this article I was in charge of the Newtech marketing and this piece was part of a newsletter email campaign. In addition to the Newtech website the article was also published on LinkedIn and within their Google Business Profile.

Photocopier Rage
A Christopher Keenan News Article

This article was written to promote the recycling of photocopiers. It marks the 80th anniversary of the much-loved photocopier and works the narrative around to disposal issues such as data breaches and ewaste disposal laws. Here’s an example of the writing style:

Despite all the love we feel for our office photocopier, when it goes wrong, and you know it will go wrong, that love is soon flipped into what corporate psychologists have coined: ‘copier rage’!

If I was to ask you who is to blame for ‘copier rage’, you’d have to point to the inventor. In case you are wondering who that was, you might like to know that the copier was invented by an American, from New York called Chester Carlson. Chester held the core manufacturing patent for all copiers and as you can imagine that made him richer than the Royal family. Well maybe not that rich, but it is estimated that Carlson gave away almost $100 million to charity and foundations before he died just 30 years after his invention.
